Semester 3 - Images: The Power of Photography

One over arching theme that keeps cropping up when I think reflexively is one of the absolute power of photography has on my life and in general, I started taking pictures when i was 7 years old and can pinpoint it to a specific event that started my love of this medium (if anyone wants to hear the story give me a shout). Photography has given me so much in my life (it’s also taken away but less of) it’s given me rewards through financial work and creative output, it’s opened doors that wouldn’t have had opened normally, it’s shown me things I’d have never experienced otherwise, in short it’s made me who i am right now and I’d like to help communicate, pass on it’s power to others….

….goodness i should like a fundamental now…don’t i have you got a moment to talk about the power of photography?

This journey has now come full circle culminating in this project and with my current career. The path at the moment has been a bumpy one but think I feel a lot calmer about this approach in towards deadline, I’ve got it focussed now barring a few last minute turbulences I’ll arrive on the 4th with a well resolved project.

“I photograph things to see what they will look like photographed..”

This Garry Winnogrand photo quote is coming to mind here, I’d always taken it to mean that the photograph was the act of freezing a moment to show what happened in that moment, a documentation of an unique moment in time what that moment was, here it’s shown by a shot from 2019 at 10:52:45

For this project (and I believe my future practice) I would say that the moment is now becoming unimportant: I’m now looking at what I’m photographing and how that looks like as an image, I’m aiming to show that the moment is not so much decisive as persuasive, it exists constantly to be photographed but some are more than others. It’s just there.

I will show this by the revisiting of the spaces to photograph them, the resulting images will be in similar styles and will show that the resulting images purvey a different aspect to these spaces, they can be read differently if viewed singularly and will be seen in different contexts and manners due to the medium, the audiencing and presentation.

The P.o.P (this is the power of photography now renamed for my semi serious semi fun fundamental semi religious approach forthwith be know for…..) has manifested itself in many different ways.,….these places i have photographed all hopefully show that the image can be considered and reconsidered.

These straight bland images are to be beholden in many different ways.
